How to Generate a SEVIS Coupon on fmjfee.com
Before SevisGo can pay your SEVIS fee, you need to generate a payment coupon on fmjfee.com. This coupon contains your SEVIS information and allows us to make the payment on your behalf. Here's exactly how to do it.
What is a SEVIS coupon?
A SEVIS coupon is a PDF document generated on fmjfee.com that contains your SEVIS ID, personal information, and payment details. Instead of paying the fee yourself on the website, you generate this coupon and give it to a third party (like SevisGo) who pays on your behalf. The DHS explicitly allows this.

Step 1
Go to fmjfee.com
Open your browser and go to fmjfee.com. This is the only official website for SEVIS fee payments. Do not use any other website.
Step 2
Click "Submit Form I-901"
On the homepage, click the button to start the I-901 form. You'll need to agree to the terms and conditions.
Step 3
Select your visa category
Choose 'F/M Student' if you have an I-20, or 'J Exchange Visitor' if you have a DS-2019. Select the correct category — this cannot be changed later.
Step 4
Enter your SEVIS ID
Type your SEVIS ID exactly as shown on your I-20 or DS-2019. It starts with 'N' followed by 10 digits. Double-check every digit.
Step 5
Fill in your personal information
Enter your full name, date of birth, country of birth, country of citizenship, and email address. Use the exact same information as on your I-20.
Step 6
Enter your school information
Type your school name and school code (from your I-20). The website will auto-suggest schools as you type.
Step 7
At the payment step — choose "Generate a coupon"
This is the critical step. Instead of entering credit card information, look for the link that says 'Click here to generate a coupon' or 'Pay by coupon'. Click it to generate a PDF coupon instead of paying directly.
Step 8
Download and save the coupon PDF
The website will generate a PDF document. Download it and save it to your device. You will upload this file when creating your application on SevisGo.
Important tips
Match your I-20 exactly
Every field must match your I-20 or DS-2019. Even small differences (like a middle name) can cause issues.
Save the coupon securely
Keep the PDF in a safe place. You'll need it for your SevisGo application and may need it for reference later.
Don't pay on fmjfee.com
If you're using SevisGo, do NOT make a payment on fmjfee.com. Just generate the coupon and we'll handle the rest.
Coupon doesn't expire immediately
Your coupon is valid for a reasonable period, but don't wait too long. Submit it on SevisGo as soon as possible.
What happens after I upload the coupon?
Once you upload the coupon and complete your payment on SevisGo, our team will:
- 1. Verify your coupon and payment
- 2. Pay the SEVIS fee on fmjfee.com using your coupon
- 3. Upload the official I-901 receipt to your dashboard
- 4. Send you an email notification when your receipt is ready
The entire process typically takes 1–24 hours.
